Educational activity

The Laboratory's educational activities involve organising and carrying out events, such as:

  • Regular seminars to discuss leading developments in big data analysis methods that are developed in our Laboratory and published in leading journals;
  • International Summer Schools to which post-graduate students from Russia, Europe, and around the world are invited. School lecturers include leading experts in big data methodology.

The main way the Laboratory works with students is by leading undergraduate and graduate thesis projects during which students become familiarized with cutting edge methods and approaches to processing big data and improve these methods by applying them to their chosen field. Students can also participate in academic seminars and present the results of their own research, as well as the results of research and projects published in leading journals and topical conferences.

Post-graduate students from other universities who intern in the Laboratory, usually for several months at a time, or carry out joint research might organise workshops for undergraduates as well. An example is the Innovative Training Network programme. This type of academic network attracts post-graduate students and envisions research being carried out in partnership with European universities and private companies who are market leaders in their fields.

In addition, the Laboratory plans to work with other HSE labs in conducting interdisciplinary research aimed at the expert analysis of large amounts of data.
