Artificial intelligence in education

Relevance of the project

The project is related to the most promising areas of using artificial intelligence technologies in education - personalised adaptive learning, assessment and pedagogical design.

Subprojects:

Models of personalised adaptive learning as elements of modern digital educational infrastructure

The aim is to apply methods of generative artificial intelligence based on knowledge representation and logical inference to provide a new level of informative feedback support.

The methodological basis of personalised adaptive learning is the scaffolding model, which develops L.S. Vygotsky's ideas about the "zone of proximal development" and offers their technological interpretation.

Use of artificial intelligence methods for collection and processing of assessment data in education

The goal is to develop computational psychometrics methods to reduce the time and economic costs of test development and test processing, improve the security of test materials, enhance the naturalness of the measurement situation, and improve the fairness of the assessment and provide instant feedback on test results.

The two main areas are:

  • automating the scoring of open-ended tasks, which removes experts who introduce their individual biased distortions into respondents' test scores from the validation process;
  • use of automatic generation of tasks in order to generate tasks that have not yet been presented to anyone, but reliably have known psychometric characteristics in advance.

Development of a recommendation information and service platform "Instructional Design dashboards"

The aim is to develop and test a new type of dashboards as a tool to provide feedback to the instructor on the quality of pedagogical design of specific course elements based on learning analytics data in order to consistently improve these elements and course design in general to improve the quality of students' educational outcomes.
