Laboratory for Theoretical Modelling in AI

The Laboratory for Theoretical Modelling in AI conducts research and develops applications in the most in-demand and promising areas of artificial intelligence. Staff regularly publish articles in prestigious scientific journals and the proceedings of leading international conferences. They also have experience collaborating with major IT companies.

About the Laboratory

The Laboratory for Theoretical Modelling in AI was established in 2024. Artificial intelligence technologies are developing rapidly and becoming increasingly integrated into everyday life. According to the national strategy, the annual volume of services for developing and implementing solutions in this field is expected to grow to at least 60 billion roubles by 2030. However, creating competitive AI models is impossible without a foundation in fundamental knowledge. An excellent example of this is generative modelling, which incorporates concepts from mathematical statistics, optimal transport theory, stochastic processes, and more. As such, the laboratory's interests span a wide range, from exploratory research to applied developments for industrial partners, focusing on the following relevant areas:

  • Development and analysis of machine learning and optimisation algorithms
  • Multivariate statistics and probability theory
  • Generative modelling
  • Computer vision
  • Natural language processing
  • Recommender systems
  • Large language models and their adaptation

The laboratory staff regularly publish works on artificial intelligence in prestigious scientific journals and the proceedings of leading conferences (ICORE A* ranking). They have extensive experience collaborating with major IT companies and supervising undergraduate and graduate theses. Some staff members also teach at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science.
