About the Department

The joint department with the Institute for System Programming (ISP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences was founded at HSE in 2015. It is part of the School of Software Engineering at the Faculty of Computer Science.

The Head of the Department is Arutyun Avetisyan, Director of the Institute for System Programming of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of RAS, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

The department teaches courses on the System Programming educational track of the Bachelor’s in Software Engineering and courses of the Master’s in System Programming.

The main areas of research and applied development conducted by the joint department coincide with those of the ISP: programming methodology, software engineering, new programming paradigms, operating systems, programming languages, databases and knowledge bases, parallel and distributed systems, computer networks, and intellectual systems.
