On Tits alternative for linear groups (Alexander Popkovich)
A talk by Alexander Popkovich on the Seminar on Algebraic Transformation Groups.
A theorem conjectured by H. Bass and J.-P. Serre and proven by Jacques Tits states that a finitely generated linear group either has a solvable subgroup of finite index or a free group on two generators. I intend to give an overview of the proof of this theorem following Tits' original paper.
