HSE University will hold the 2nd international summer school in bioinformatics. The summer school will be held online on August 23-27, 2021.

Modern experimental techniques in life sciences produce large, constantly accumulating amounts of biological data. The data analysis requires deep knowledge of basic computer science and task-specific algorithms, yielding a high demand for professionals in computational biology. School’s participants will receive interdisciplinary knowledge that is invaluable for the biomedical data analysis.

Modern biology is a data-rich science. To deal with the flood of data in biology and medicine, and to derive new knowledge from these data, scientific laboratories, clinics, and industry need qualified specialists in computational biology.

Due to the revolution in high-throughput technologies bioinformatics became Big Data Science of Genomics. Therefore, the opening of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics at the Faculty of Computer Science is a necessary and timely event. Big Data of molecular biology already utilize general algorithms and methods of Data science, among which the machine-learning methods demonstrate good performance.

In this light, machine learning application to bioinformatics is an extremely topical area.
