About
March 3th 2012 - at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of the Faculty of Business Informatics, the Scientific and Educational Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Structural Analysis (NUL ISSA) was created.
July 30th 2015 - the laboratory was awarded the status of the International Scientific and Educational Laboratory (ISEL ISSA), and already at the Department of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence of the Faculty of Computer Science.
From January 1st 2020 - the full title of the Laboratory is "International Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Structural Analysis".
The reason for founding the laboratory is growing demand for high-quality data scientists and researchers in the fields of intelligent systems development and data analysis techniques. The volumes of data that science and industry operate have dramatically increased in the past decades – as well as hidden knowledge of Big Data and value within it. To gain competitive advantage and uncover the hidden insights from data we need new mathematical models and algorithms for processing complex data of different types.
Since the end of 2021, the International Laboratory has been participating in the projects of the HSE Artificial Intelligence Center.
Since March 3, 2025, the international laboratory has been a structural division of the Center for Language and Semantic Technologies of the Faculty of Computer Science.
Administration
The current head is Sergei O. Kuznetsov.
Manager of the Lab is Marina Zhelyazkova.

Research seminars
The laboratory hosts periodic scientific seminars within the "Mathematical Models of Information Technology" and "Transdisciplinary Applications of Data Science" series.
International seminars are also organized annually, including "What FCA Can Do for Artificial Intelligence?", "New Level of Visualization — New Level of Analytics," "Kolmogorov Seminar on Computational Linguistics," "Logic Matters," and others.
Academic activity
The ISSA International Laboratory is part of the Center for Language and Semantic Technologies within the Department of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence of the Faculty of Computer Science. The laboratory's staff participates in all aspects of the faculty's academic work, including teaching courses and conducting seminars in undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, organizing winter and summer schools, supporting continuing education programs, and more.
The ISSA International Laboratory directly supports the Master's program in Data Science, whose academic director is S.O. Kuznetsov. The Laboratory also teaches courses in "Data Mining," "Ordered Sets in Data Analysis," "Automatic Text Processing," and "Network Analysis," among others, and serves as a base for student research seminars.
Partners
The laboratory maintains close ties with academic and industrial research centers in Russia and around the world.
In 2020, a mirror laboratory for the project "Intelligent Data Analysis in Medical Information Systems" was established at the laboratory in collaboration with the Scientific and Educational Center of the Polytechnic Institute of Surgut State University.
Active cooperation is underway with other structural divisions of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, as well as Huawei and other technology companies.
