The 13th International Conference in Сoncept Lattices and Applications CLA-2016 Has Ended

From 18 to 22 July, the 13th International Conference on Concept Lattices and Their Applications was held at HSE. The conference was organized by HSE International Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Structural Analysis and School of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence. Nowadays, FCA has strong international community, which develops various applications ranging from ontological modeling to software engeneering. Regular conferences in the field of FCA have been held since 2002. This was the first time that such conference had taken place in Russia. Seventy scientists from 20 countries attended the event. The invited speakers are prominent scientists in the field of concept lattices and related areas of mathematics, computer science and intelligent systems.

• Bernhard Ganter. Things to do in Formal Concept Analysis.
• Jérôme Euzenat. Data interlinking with formal concept analysis and link keys.
• Boris Mirkin. Relaxing Formal Concepts: Approximate n-Clusters.
• Lev Beklemishev. Strictly positive fragments of modal and description logic.

Among the regular speakers one can note the high quality of reports of ISSA employees:

• Sergei Obiedkov. Query Learning and Attribute Exploration.
• Dmitry Ilvovsky. Annotated Suffix Tree for Text Clustering.
• Yury Kashnitsky. Global optimization in learning with important data: an FCA-based approach.

 

A distinctive feature of the conference were four thematic workshops:

• Workshop on Algorithms for FCA and Data Mining (AFCADM)
• Workshop on Concept Discovery in Unstructured Data (CDUD)
• Workshop on Soft Computing Applications and Knowledge Discovery (SCAKD)
• International Workshop on Experimental Economics and Machine Learning (EEML)

The seminar discussed aspects of practical application of theoretical research in each particular field.

At the last plenary session, Bernard Ganter talked about current problems in the development of formal concept analysis and the most significant short-term goals to be achieved in order to expand the application range and improve the effectiveness of analysts' work. On the sidelines of the conference there were ongoing scientific debates.
After intense sessions of the conference, participants made tours to historical places of Moscow: Red Square, Krutitskoe courtyard, and others. Another significant event, which united all the participants, was the boat trip down the Moskva River.

 

The conference was a bright, useful and enjoyable event in the summer of 2016 for all of its participants.
