The collaboration between the Higher School of Economics and Yandex began in 2008. In 2011, a joint department with Yandex was opened within the HSE Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics. In 2014, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics and the joint department became part of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, which was created jointly by Yandex and the Higher School of Economics. The department trains specialists in demand in the IT industry.
As part of the bachelor's program "Applied Mathematics and Informatics", Yandex is responsible for programming instruction in the first two years of the program, inviting company employees and other industry representatives to teach. Students gain knowledge in demand at leading tech companies.
The Faculty of Computer Science and Yandex developed a joint master's program "Modern Computer Science". The program covers several areas of computer science: data science, theoretical informatics, and big data infrastructure. The program's unique feature is its combination of a deep fundamental approach and rigorous practical training. Training is conducted in close collaboration with the Yandex School of Data Analysis.
In 2020, the Yandex Research and Education Laboratory opened, which, in collaboration with Yandex Research, conducts research in computer science and artificial intelligence.
