Machine Learning (ML) is a field of AI that examines methods and algorithms that enable computers to learn based on experience and data and without explicit programming. With its help, AI can analyse data, recall information, build forecasts, and give recommendations. Machine learning algorithms have applications in medicine, stock trading, robotics, drone control and other fields.

The conference includes topical workshops. In the ‘AI in Medicine’ section, the researchers will discuss the application of AI methods in the analysis of medical data.

  • Maria Poptsova, Head of the International Laboratory of Bioinformatics at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science AI and Digital Science Institute, will talk about a system for predicting adverse outcomes in cardiac patients over a ten-year period based on clinical data on biomarkers.
  • Dmitry Umerenkov from Sber AI Lab will share his experience of developing and implementing models that determine diagnosis from text data contained in electronic medical records, from problem formulation to implementation. These models are integrated into the public medical system and are used daily by thousands of Moscow doctors.
  • Michael Nathenzon, Chair of the Board at National Telemedicine Agency, will talk on the application of the PhthisisBioMed medical service for the automated analysis of chest radiographs/fluorograms.
  • Maxim Sharaev from Skoltech will talk about projects to develop algorithms for the early detection of dementia and mathematical models for histopathology in different types of cancer.

The panel discussion ‘Strong AI: Risks and Benefits’ will include presentations on the key aspects of Strong AI—from defining AI and its potential, to ethical and social issues, to development risks (including confidentiality, security, and autonomy).

At the 'Science in Academy vs Industry' panel discussion, the participants will talk about the ‘megaprojects’ that academia and industry can implement together to develop AI technologies. The chair is Alexey Naumov, Director for Fundamental Research at the HSE AI and Digital Science Institute.

One major part of the conference will be the poster session, which everyone will take part in. The participants will present their research, work results, new technologies and methods in the field of AI in the form of posters containing a brief summary of their work and its goals, methods, and results.

The event gathers leading researchers in the field of AI who have presented at A* conferences. The list of speakers includes representatives of fundamental science (HSE University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, MIPT, ITMO, Skoltech), industry (Sber, Huawei, Samsung, Yandex), and government (Digital Economy non-profit organisation).

The conference will be held in an in-person format. The working languages of the event are Russian and English.

The conference programme is available here. More information is also available on the event’s Telegram channel.
