The multiscale DNA modelling, from electrons to nucleosomes, was uncovered during the conference, commemorated 22 years of the Ascona B-DNA consortium.

At the conference, Alexey Shaitan, a researcher at the International Bioinformatics Laboratory, gave a talk on "Understanding the functional modes of histone octamer plasticity with".

DNA carries the genetic information an organism needs to develop, live and reproduce. Processes such as transcription and replication are thus central to biology. However, DNA is a long, flexible and structurally polymorphic molecule. So, the DNA description is complicated because of its inherent layered nature. The high complexity with multiple resolutions requires modelling over a wide range of sizes and timescales. In recent years we have seen the development of a comprehensive repertoire of theoretical methods aimed at reproducing the properties of DNA, both isolated and bound to a protein. [1].
