School-conference “Information Technologies and Systems. Bioinformatics"
On March 7-10, 2019 RTL of Bioinformatics organized a school-conference “Information Technologies and Systems. Bioinformatics ".
The HSE faculty of computer science was represented by intern-researchers and post-graduate students from research and teaching laboratory of bioinformatics (lead by Maria Poptsova, Mikhail Gelfand and Sergey Spirin), master students from "Data Analysis in Biology and Medicine" program (Academic Supervisor - Mikhail Gelfand), as well as third and fourth year undergraduate students in “Software Engineering” and “Applied Mathematics and Informatics” who are interested in bioinformatics.
Students had a unique opportunity to learn about research and projects carried out in the bioinformatics laboratories of the largest universities in Russia, present their own reports, gain new knowledge, and exchange experience.
Arina Nostaeva, master program "Data Analysis in Biology and Medicine", 1st year:
For me, as a beginner in bioinformatics, the conference was especially significant. We managed to get acquainted with many topics and an even wider variety of tasks in a short period of time; This helped me orient myself in the space of urgent problems in this field of science. I also liked the organization of this event, which deserves special praise.
Nazar Beknazarov, undergraduate program “Applied Mathematics and Informatics”, 4th year:
The trip with the entire laboratory to ITIS (b) was significant and valuable for me. I got acquainted with ongoing student's projects, learned about the laboratory's current projects, and was able to discuss the state of bioinformatics in an informal setting. To contribute to ITIS (b), I gave a lecture on machine learning techniques that could find applications in bioinformatics.
