Secondary DNA structures lead to gene mutations that increase the risk of cancer
Maria Poptsova (head of the laboratory) and Ksenia Cheloshkina (graduate of the master's program "Big Data Systems" at the Faculty of Business and Management), using machine learning, found out that the two most common structures in the genome: stem-loop (hairpins) and G-quadruplexes - cause genome mutations, leading to cancer. The research results are published in BMC Cancer.
