European Molecular Biology Laboratory Symposium: Systems Genetics: From Genomes to Complex Traits

Laboratory intern Abusaid Shaimardanov - participant of Systems Genetics: From Genomes to Complex Traits 2019

The first conference of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory was held from September 29 to October 2, 2019.The conference is dedicated to system genetics in general (European Molecular Biology Organization | European Molecular Biology Laboratory Symposium: Systems Genetics: From Genomes to Complex Traits).

The conference was attended by intern researcher Abusaid Shaimardanov (scientific supervisor-Dmitry Svetlichny). Abusaid presented the results of the work on the project "Interplay of cis and trans factors shape species-specific evolution of gene regulation and expression in primate brain" ("The interaction of cis and trans factors forms the species-specific evolution of gene regulation and expression in the primate brain").

The organizers have done a lot of work to ensure that each participant of the conference was involved in communication with colleagues. For example, on the first day, an hour-long speed-networking session was held, during the session you are given a minute to communicate with a random person from the conference. It was also convenient that after each session, the speakers waited for questions at certain tables during a coffee break. Thus, all the above actions made it possible to plunge well into the world of systemic genetics. Personally, the conference allowed me to learn firsthand about state-of-the-art methods used in systems biology, as well as to hear comments on my report.
