On May 10, an article was published Alliance published an article "Open Access Z-flipon variants reveal the many roles of Z-DNA and Z-RNA in health and disease" in the journal Life Science, in which scientists presented their experience.

The project was developed by Anna Danilova, MLB HSE Intern Researcher, Nazar Beknazarov, PhD Student, Higher School of Economics, Dmitry Konovalov, MLB NRU HSE Intern Researcher, Alexander Fedorov, MLB Junior Researcher, HSE, Alan Herbert, Scientific Consultant, and Maria Poptsova, Head of the MLB Laboratory, HSE.

Determining the role of Z-DNA remains challenging given their dynamic nature. Here, we conduct a genome-wide interrogation with a DNABERT transducer algorithm trained on experimentally identified Z-DNA-forming sequences (Z-flipons). The algorithm provides a significant performance improvement (F1 = 0.83) compared to existing approaches and implements computational mutagenesis to evaluate the effect of base substitution on Z-DNA formation.
