Laboratory staff became speakers at the Open Lectures of the Faculty of Computer Science on April 2, 2019

Maria Poptsova and Mikhail Gelfand spoke at the Open Lectures of the Faculty of Computer Science.

On April 2, 2019, the first day of Open Lectures of the Faculty of Computer Science took place, which was held as part of the Days of Computer Science and the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Faculty.

Professor, leading researcher of the laboratory of bioinformatics Mikhail Gelfand gave a lecture "Systems biology".

The development of new experimental methods based on fast and cheap sequencing has made molecular biology a big data science. This has led to the emergence of researches that use different types of data in order to describe the relationship of the spatial folding of DNA, modifications of associated proteins and the work of genes.

The result of such studies is an integrated description of the cell, as well as specific predictions of the function and regulation of individual genes.

Associate Professor, Head of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics Maria Poptsova gave a lecture "From Bioinformatics to Biointelligence".

Prospects for the development of data analysis in biology and medicine in the 20s of the XXI century. The lecture describes what big data represents in biology and medicine, how machine learning methods are gaining predictive power, how deep learning contributes to reading the genome, and biology gains the status of a mathematical discipline.
