Privacy in Data Processing (many synonims exists) is a very critical topic today as companies are exchanging data sets with each other and various start-ups are offering products based on data science.
Imagine if you could send an entire database of your customers to a data partner without him being able to see what customers your really have, contact them or find out how your business works.
This is possible practically in several simplistic scenarios, like intersection of numeric data sets by two parties owing two data sets. And research in the area of Private Processing of Data continues to enlarge the practicality, scenarios and operations possible for joint yet privacy preserving processing.
One says it pays off to learn the initial motivations and assumptions made when the research area had just started to develop. We will go through a couple of early results in Practical Private Information Retrieval and Sovereign Joins made in 2000-2004. At the end we will fast-forward to an overview of current state of subject research.
Dmitry Asonov graduated from BMSTU in 1999, and post-graduated (Ph.D) from Humboldt University Berlin in 2003, both summa cum laude. He spent 2 years as a postodctoral fellow at Almaden IBM Research Center, his collegues and him earning top media coverages of their research results, including the coverage in New York Times Magazine "Innovations of the Year" special issue.
Dmitry did have a start-up experience in 2011-2014 as a Skolkovo resident founder and CEO, his research and a product featured in The Moscow Times, SkReview. In 2012-2015 he was heading Samsung Media Solutions Center Russia and CIS where his team's work was covered by Russian Newspaper, RBC Daily, and NTV. Recently he worked as a product manager at FinstarLabs and now he is a product manager at oneFactor.
The lecture will take place within the class of the course ‘’Data and Service Engineering for Automating Business Processes’’. Enrolled students are required to attend the lecture.
