The Games of the Future in competitive programming were held in Kazan on February 28th–29th. 50 people from 27 countries took part in the competition. The Russian national team included seven students selected based on the results of the Russian championship organised by the Competitive Programming Federation. The team included three students from Applied Mathematics and Information Science at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science.

A scientific conference dedicated to the young and actively developing field of recommender systems was held at HSE University. Representatives of the scientific community and industry gathered at the site to exchange cutting-edge ideas and best practices, as well as discuss opportunities to implement new technologies in real-life business scenarios.

In December, the Northern Eurasia Regional Contests (NERC)—the semifinal of the ICPC international programming contest—took place. This year’s competition featured around 300 teams comprising 900 participants from Russia and other CIS countries. The contest took place simultaneously in St Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Astana, and Kutaisi. The majority of teams—a total of 152—took part in the competition at St Petersburg’s MTS Live Hall venue.

On 5–13 December, HSE Faculty of Computer Science hosted a mini-course Decision Making by Enes Eryarsoy from Sabanci University (Turkey).

On November 17-19, The HSE Faculty of Computer Science, SBER and cloud technology provider Cloud.ru organised HSE Sber ML Hack, a hackathon based around machine learning. More than 350 undergraduate and graduate students from 54 leading Russian universities took part in the competition.

Students of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science Fedor Romanov and Bogdan Yandulov took first and second places in the finals of the all-Russian programming tournament for students ‘Codemasters Code Cup 2023’. The two were named the best among the 16 finalists who made it through the tournament’s online round.

The Continuing Professional Development Centre of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science has recently hosted the summer school 'Cardiogenetics: From Sequencing to Constructing a Cardio Panel'. The school programme was co-organised by the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Analytical Instrumentation and Institute of Spectroscopy and the Syntol company.

HSE University’s team Algorithmic Heist was among the winners of the 5^th-anniversary Leaders of Digital Transformation hackathon, one of the country’s major IT competitions. More than 7,000 programmers, analysts, designers, marketers, project engineers, and IT entrepreneurs from across Russia and 37 other countries took part in the hackathon. The competition ended with a three-day final and an award ceremony held in Moscow in mid-June.
