The faculty trains developers and researchers. The programme has been created based on the experience of leading American and European universities, such as Stanford University (U.S.) and EPFL (Switzerland). Also taken into consideration when creating the faculty was the School of Data Analysis, which is one of the strongest postgraduate schools in the field of computer science in Russia. The wide range of elective courses will allow each student to create his or her own educational path. In the faculty, learning is based on practice and projects.
The Ilya Segalovich grant is aimed at supporting students who show a real passion for science and technology. The grant will be awarded based on academic achievements and research work.
A competition commission comprising Faculty teaching staff and leading Yandex developers will select the recipients. The first recipients will be selected based on performance as of the first six months of the year, on 1 April 2015, the date the Faculty was established.
A total of 3,420,000 roubles will be made available for grants from the first year of study. These funds will be distributed between ten BA students, three MA students and three post-graduate students. Over the course of a year from the date of the award, grant recipients will receive 10,000, 20,000 and 25,000 roubles each month. In future, as the Faculty grows, the size of the grant awarded may grow.
