'Unprecedented atmosphere of Moscow turned this two years of studies into the best experience of my life'

The Higher School of Economics gradually takes higher positions in the authoritative World University Rankings. At the same time, the University is becoming more and more popular among international students. On the one hand, foreigners can apply to study for free through full-tuition scholarships which completely waive all tuition fees for select full-degree Bachelor's and Master's programmes at HSE. On the other hand, tuition fees in HSE appear to be lower than in many universities outside Russia. We have talked to English speaking graduates of the English-taught Master’s programme System and Software Engineering and found out about their experience of studying in HSE, life in Moscow, and what do they do as professionals now.

From Chaotic Dynamics to Process Mining

Sergey Shershakov is 2012 graduate of the HSE master’s programme in System and Software Engineering, lecturer of a course in Data Algorithms and Structures, a researcher at the Laboratory of Process-Aware Information Systems (PAIS Lab), and participant of the Young Faculty Support Programme in the Category ‘New Researchers’. Sergey told us what Process Mining is, how to keep your knowledge up-to-date without working in the industry, and why HSE graduates don’t have to ‘forget everything they’ve been taught’.

Students of HSE Faculty of Computer Science Talk about their Studies

While some graduates are preparing for MA enrollment exams, others have already received confirmation from international universities. Graduates from the Faculty of Computer Science tell us about their decision to continue their studies abroad, the enrollment procedure, computer science courses available in international universities, and the role of fundamental math in studying economics.

Serious Projects are Born when their Creators are Still at University

HSE graduate Sergei Pronin was still studying for his degree in Software Engineering when he and others designed App in the Air, promoted by Apple as a successful mobile project. Sergei now works as the leading developer at Empatika and teaches at HSE. He talked to HSE News about trends in the app market, the unique Russian language course on developing iOS apps and about the principles of teaching in the IT sphere.

HSE Alumnus Wins Global Education Grant

Artem Stafeev, who received his bachelor's in Software Engineering in 2014, has become the first HSE representative to win a state grant to study at a foreign university as part of the new governmental programme Global Education.
