Kartik Joshi, from India, is pursuing a master's degree at HSE University, specialising in Data Science. In his interview, he talks about his life and studies in Moscow and invites HSE students and staff to participate in the Holi festival on March 21.

This summer, Alexander Demin, a student of Applied Mathematics and Information Science programme, interns at École polytechnique. We talked to him about his research, France and his studies at HSE University.

Arina Rak, a student of the Applied Mathematics and Information Science programme, took part in two internships abroad despite the pandemic. She tells us about the difficulties she had to overcome and how she managed to achieve her goal.

The AMC Makeathon is an annual makeathon from the American Center in Moscow (AMC). This year it was held online and focused on ecology, environmental literacy, and the green economy. First and second places went to student teams from HSE University. The News Service talked to representatives of the teams about the solutions they came up with.

This year, Russia’s largest science and technology festival, Geek Picnic, was held online for the first time. Despite the new format, the festival programme included all of the event’s usual key features: expert lectures, workshops, competitions, and opportunities to socialize and network with fellow tech and science enthusiasts. HSE University once again served as the festival’s content partner.

This July, St. Petersburg and Moscow hosted Geek Picnic, the popular science festival for lovers of science and cutting-edge technology. This year HSE University became an official partner of the event. Festival guests got to see the recent projects of HSE professors, students, and graduates as well as attend lectures by leading HSE experts.

The application period for HSE’s Student Research Paper Competition has started. The winners will have an opportunity to take part in workshops on academic skills development, while those in state-financed studies will improve their chances of seeing their academic scholarships increased. Also, in addition in HSE students, learners from other academic institutions are eligible for this competition.

On November 28th – 29th, 2015, a hackathon on Azure Machine Learning took place at the Microsoft office in Moscow. Student teams from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science won the Data Modelling category and received a special prize for solving the Alfa Bank problem in the Data Visualization category.

On October 26th, 2014, a quarterfinal of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2014-2015 took place at the Moscow State University and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Two teams from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science took 7^th and 11^th places and passed through to the contest’s semifinal.
