On September 12, 2025, a new Sber classroom was unveiled at HSE’s Pokrovsky Bulvar campus. The venue will host lectures and project seminars, and in their free time, students will be able to use it as a co-working area or as a platform for their own events—from film screenings to intellectual debates.

Participation in high-level international events is crucial for the professional development of researchers starting their career in science. It provides an opportunity to exchange ideas, create promising teams, and make important connections. This summer, Denis Ryapolov and Askar Tsyganov, students of the Applied Mathematics and Computer Science programme and staff of the AI and Digital Sciences Institute at the Faculty of Computer Science of HSE University, attended the prestigious international Conference on Learning Theory, COLT 2025, which was held in Lyon, France. In an interview, they shared their experiences and impressions from the trip.

For more than five years, the International Laboratory of Bioinformatics at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science has been advancing cutting-edge research. During this time, its scientists have achieved major breakthroughs, including the development of CARDIOLIFE—a unique genetic test unmatched worldwide that predicts the likelihood of cardiovascular disease. With the active participation of HSE students, including doctoral students, the team is also working on a new generation of medicines. In the finals of the olympiad, the Russian team competed with 300 talented schoolchildren from 61 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Hungary, China, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, Serbia, Singapore, the USA, Sweden, and Japan. The finals included team and individual rounds. In the team round, the Russian team made it into the top 10, winning a silver medal. In the individual competition, Russian schoolchildren won six gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.

The HSE University Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) and Yandex Education are pleased to announce that registration for the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis Olympiad (AIDAO) is now open. Participants will be able to put their skills to the test by solving real tasks from leading laboratories and services, as well as compete for cash prizes and admission benefits when applying to study at the FCS.

HSE students were among the winners of the International Mathematics Competition for University Students (IMC), which was held in August in Bulgaria. The medallists are students of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) programme in Applied Mathematics and Information Science and the Faculty of Mathematics programme in Mathematics.

As part of the official visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the People’s Republic of China, the HSE delegation led by Rector Nikita Anisimov concluded new cooperation agreements with major Chinese universities. This year, the European AI Conference (ECAI 2025) accepted an article titled ‘Multi-Agent Path Finding for Large Agents is Intractable’  by Artem Agafonov, a second-year student of the Applied Mathematics and Information Science Bachelor’s programme at HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science. The work was co-authored by Konstantin Yakovlev, Head of the Joint Department with Intelligent Technologies of System Analysis and Management at the Federal Research Centre ‘Informatics and Management’ of the RAS and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences. In the interview, Artem Agafonov explained how he came up with the idea for the article and how he was able to present it at an A-level conference.
