This summer they will be having internships in leading IT companies, conducting research at HSE research departments and taking part in summer schools. HSE graduate Sergei Pronin was still studying for his degree in Software Engineering when he and others designed App in the Air, promoted by Apple as a successful mobile project. Sergei now works as the leading developer at Empatika and teaches at HSE. He talked to HSE News about trends in the app market, the unique Russian language course on developing iOS apps and about the principles of teaching in the IT sphere.

Faculty Instructor Starting Internship at DeepMind

Faculty Instructor Sergey Bartunov is beginning a three-month internship at DeepMind, a research division of Google. During his time with the company, Bartunov will develop new neural network architectures and methods.

HSE Students Develop Instant Messenger for Portable Devices

Students of the Higher School of Economics have developed an app called Chill that allows users to talk to their friends on their portable devices (the Apple Watch and Android Wear) without using text or voice. The application went on the market June 9th and was instantly added to Product Hunt, the world’s largest platform for startups.

On May 28-29 the annual developer conference Google I/O 2015 took place in San Francisco. Since 2008 Google announces and launches new innovation products during the conference. This year Mikhail Burshtein, 4th year-student of the Bachelor’s Programme in Software Engineering took part in the event.

Faculty of Computer Science: An Impressive Start

he Faculty of Computer Science is only one year old – it was founded March 28, 2014 – but it already has a rich history and ambitious plans. This new 'big faculty’ brings together the departments of applied mathematics and informatics, of software engineering, and Yandex’s department, which were previously part of the Faculty of Business Informatics. The restructured faculty now consists of the School of Software Engineering, the School of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence, the School of Big Data and Information Retrieval, and the Department of Technologies for Complex System Modelling.

HSE Students Win Google’s Anita Borg Scholarships

Two HSE students have won the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, founded by Google to support women studying computer technology. The scholarship is awarded for academic achievement, leadership qualities and interest in computer sciences.

The ACM-ICPC World Finals
The 2015 ACM-ICPC World Finals sposored by IBM hosted by The Moroccan Association for Computing Machinery, Mohammed V University, Al Akhawayn University and Mundiapolis University were held today. The ACM international Collegiate Programming Contest, ICPC, traces its roots to a competition held at Texas A&M University   in 1970 hosted by the Alpha Chapter of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon   Computer Science Honor Society (UPE). The contest evolved into its present form as a multi-tier competition in 1977, with the first finals held in conjunction with the ACM Computer Science Conference
