HSE University has improved its positions in the US News Best Global Universities institutional and subject rankings. For the first time, the University ranks among the top 100 universities in the world for mathematics. HSE is also the only Russian university in the subject rankings of Economics and Business and Social Sciences and Public Health, placing among the top 300 in both categories.

DSBA students study in the double degree programme of HSE University and University of London. Once a year, they face a special task - they take British exams. This spring, forty-nine students from the first admission to the programme checked their knowledge in Business and management in a global context, Introduction to economics, Mathematical methods, Statistics 1and 2. Due to the pandemic, both preparation and exams took place online.

The students of the second cohort in HSE University’s Master of Data Science have started their classes. This English-taught programme is offered entirely online on Coursera and is the first of its kind in Russia.

In August, Control, Information, and Optimisation school was held by Sirius education centre. At the school Daniil Tyapkin, fourth-year student of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science bachelor’s programme has found an optimum algorithm of finding Wasserstein barycentre, which he was solving throughout 2020. Here Daniil talks about the history of the problem and its practical applications.

Semyon Savkin, a graduate of Moscow School No. 57 and student of HSE University’s Bachelor's Programme in Applied Mathematics and Information, has won gold in theInternational Olympiad in Informatics individual all-around among school students from 87 countries. In the unofficial team race, Russia shares second place with USA and Iran.

The School gathered more than three hundred participants from around the world to discuss the applications of geometrical and topological methods in mathematics and computer science.

Roman Nesterov, doctoral student and research intern at the Laboratory of Process-Aware Information Systems (PAIS Lab), worked distantly long before it became mainstream.
