Md Tahsir Ahmed Munna
Md Tahsir Ahmed Munna is a second-year master’s student in Data Science at HSE. He is also one of the international students nominated for HSE’s Silver Nestling Award in 2019. Munna’s master’s thesis focuses on knowledge graph-based recommender systems, and he works as a research assistant at HSE’s Laboratory for Models and Methods of Computational Pragmatics. HSE News Service spoke with Munna about studying Data Science at HSE, working on his thesis, and living in Moscow.

HSE Launches New International Laboratories
For ten years now, HSE has been holding an annual grant competition for researchers who wish to start new international laboratories at HSE in collaboration with leading foreign scholars and scientists. The most recent competition reached its conclusion this past November, and now some of the selected proposed labs have already begun operation. Who are the competition winners and what kind of research will they be doing?

HSE ICRT Seminar at Yaroslavl

International Centre for Research and Teaching held a seminar at Ushinsky Yaroslavl State University on January 29. More than fifty professors of six Yaroslavl universities participated in the seminar. Ilya Samonenko, head of HSE ICRT, talked about internships of the Centre, teaching materials that the Center publishes, and joint research opportunities.

participants from 83 countries have registered for the International Data Analysis Olympiad (IDAO). Most registrations came from Russia and India. The top ten most-represented countries among participants also include the United States, Iran, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Pakistan.

This prize is annually awarded to doctoral students, researchers and professionals from Moscow-based institutions, as well as people with Candidate or Doctor of Sciences degrees. Researchers from HSE University won competition for the third year in a row and will be recognized at ceremony slated to take place on February 7 at the Kremlin Palace.

HSE Researchers Talk with High Schoolers about What IT Will Be Like in 10 Years
How do scientists steer satellites and remotely probe our planet’s surface? Researchers from HSE and other universities discussed questions such as this with students from 36 participating Moscow high schools as part of the city government’s Moscow School IT-Classes project. Eight educational partners, including HSE and Bauman Moscow State Technical University, are participating in the project, which aims to familiarize students with careers in IT.

HSE Students Take Third Place at Junction International Hackathon
This year 1500 participants from 100 countries took part in the Junction International Hackathon. A team of second-year students of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science (Timofey Smirnov, Igor Zverev, Ainur Nuriev and Aldar Danilov) led by Maxim Dyakov (first-year student of the programme in E-Business) presented a smart lighting project.

The International Centre for Research and Teaching has been established at HSE University. The Centre's activities will be aimed at developing Russia's higher education system in mathematics and computer science in order to create new personnel for the digital economy.
