As part of the Moscow International Education Fair, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev met with students who won medals at the biggest programming competition in the world. This global contest recently reached its conclusion in Portugal, and the prize winners include HSE’s Faculty of Computer Science team.

On April 4, 2019, the world finals of ICPC, an annual student team competition and the main event in competitive programming, took place.
Helena Wiehahn, postgraduate student of Stellenbosch University, spent the last Fall semester at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. She told us about the exchange program, differences between the two countries and "Ded Moroz”.
On December 1st and 2nd, the semifinals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) for teams from the Northern Eurasia region were held. HSE teams from St. Petersburg (8th place) and the Moscow-based Faculty of Computer Science (13th place) received first class certificates. Furthermore, the teams will represent HSE at the finals, which will be held in Portugal next year.
On November 10-11, the finals of the Moscow Capture the Flag interuniversity student competition in information security (M*CTF) took place in Russia. The winning team was Shadow Servants, which included students from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science and MIEM. This is the third year in a row that Shadow Servants has won M*CTF. Their next step is the 2018 Russian CTF Cup, which will take place between November 30 and December 1 at the Skolkovo Innovation Centre.
Two students from the ‘Financial Technologies and Data Analysis’ master's programme, Nikita Churkin and Dmitry Simakov, took second place and won 100,000 rupees (approximately 100,000 rubles) at the WNS Analytics Wizard international hackathon 2018, held on September 14-16. The competition was organised by the Indian platform Analytics Vidhuya (similar to the American Kaggle).
On September 2-7, one of the world’s most prestigious programming competitions – the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) – took place in the Japanese city of Tsukuba. Three students from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science took home medals.
The second Summer School on Deep Learning and Bayesian Methods was held in Moscow from August 27 to September 1, this year in English. During 6 days participants were studying and implementing Bayesian methods in neural networks, exchanging their experience and discussing research ideas.

On April 4, the winners of the First International Data Analysis Olympiad (IDAO) were announced. The event was organized by the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, Yandex, and Harbour.Space University (Barcelona) with the support of Sberbank. Magic City team from St. Petersburg took out first prize, a team from the Ukraine came second, and the Apex team from Belarus came third.
