In September 2024, employees of Genotek Medical Genetics Centre will act as instructors and supervisors for students’ term papers and master's theses in the ‘Data Analysis in Biology and Medicine’ programme at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. Genotek’s expertise in Big Data analysis and bioinformatics processing of sequencing data has allowed the revision of the curriculum to include modern data analysis methods in biology and medicine.

From the very beginning of their university years, HSE students start to develop their own start-up ideas. As a result, three graduates of the bachelor’s programme in Software Engineering of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science—Andrey Losyukov, Timofey Valov, and Alexander Kulakov—created the HiBye platform for networking at events. The students presented their project and discussed their start-up with the HSE News Service.
The AI Alliance Russia has released a new ranking of Russian universities based on the quality of education in the field of AI. Similar to last year, HSE University has joined the leaders in A+ group alongside MIPT and ITMO. A total of 207 universities from 69 Russian regions participated in the ranking. In 2024, over 35,000 students were enrolled in AI-related programmes at these universities.
HSE University and the Central University announced the launch of two joint bachelor's and master's degree programmes in the field of information technology. This year, the first admission to the bachelor's programme ‘Design and Development of Information Products’ will open with the support of T-Bank,the programme’s industrial partner.
The Data Culture Project, a module of the educational programme at HSE University, was launched seven years ago. At that time, it was already clear that the ability to work with data had become an essential skill for any professional, regardless of their field. Thousands of students have since participated in the project's courses, and now it has expanded to all HSE campuses. In 2024, a total of 26,903 students passed independent exams on digital skills. Several updates to the course are planned for the upcoming academic year. In this article, we discuss the changes expected for the Data Culture Project.
An online course 'What is Generative AI?’ has been launched on the Open Education platform, which will help students learn more about how to properly communicate with neural networks so that they can perform tasks better. Daria Kasyanenko, an expert at the Continuing Education Centre and senior lecturer at the Big Data and Information Retrieval School at the Faculty of Computer Science, spoke about how generative AI works and how to create content with its help.
On April 14–19, 2024, two finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) took place in Luxor (Egypt). The teams from HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science became world champions in the 47th ICPC final and received gold medals in the 46th final.
The distinguished Indian mathematician Professor Neena Gupta delivered a presentation at the celebration of the 100th seminar on algebraic transformation groups organised by the Laboratory on Algebraic Transformation Groups at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. The seminar, which has been regularly held by the laboratory since 2020, is chaired by Ivan Arzhantsev, the head of the laboratory and dean of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, along with senior research fellows of the laboratory Sergey Gayfullin and Alexander Perepechko.
Over the next ten years, the partnership between Yandex and the HSE Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) will broaden across three key areas: launching new educational programmes, advancing AI research, and exploring the application of generative neural networks in the educational process. Established by HSE University and Yandex a decade ago, the Faculty of Computer Science has since emerged as a frontrunner in training developers and experts in AI and machine learning, with a total of 3,385 graduates from the faculty over this period.
On February 26–29, 2024, HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science will hold a winter school on software engineering for the third time. It will focus on modern software development tools and methods. From February 26 to 28, the school will be held online, and on February 29, it will take place at the HSE University building on Pokrovsky Bulvar in Moscow. Those interested can register to participate until February 22.
