HSE and University of California at San Diego Offer New Specialization on Coursera

HSE has teamed up with the University of California at San Diego (ranked 14th on the ARWU ranking, 41st on THE, and 59th on QS) to launch the new Data Structures and Algorithms specialization on Coursera. The specialization is taught completely in English and consists of five interrelated courses. Registration is open until March 7.

HSE Computer Science Faculty Student to Present His Project to British Minister of Transport

Third year software engineering student Vadim Drobinin took part in the Hacktrainhackathon last weekend in Britain (November 21-22). The project, developed by the international team Vadim is part of, will be presented to the British Minister of Transport and compete for 25,000 pounds worth of investment. 

A Chance to Work with the Best Experts on Algorithmic Information Theory

Bruno Bauwens, an expert in Kolmogorov complexity, is a new recruit at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. He started in September 2015. Bruno received his PhD from Ghent University in Belgium, after which he held postdoctoral fellowships at Porto University (Portugal), as well as at the University of Montpellier and University of Lorraine. Associate Professor Bruno Bauwens spoke to HSE English News about his research and  about settling in to life and work in the international academic community in Moscow.

HSE to Hold World Programming Contest Quarter-finals

On October 18, 2015 for the first time ever, the Faculty of Computer Science at HSE will host the quarter-finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest, ACM ICPC.

Summer School on Mobile Application Development

On July 1-11 2015, a summer school on the development of mobile applications was held at HSE. Fourteen projects by school participants, created during the four days of ‘Hackaton’ were presented to an expert jury.

HSE Students Win Google’s Anita Borg Scholarships

Two HSE students have won the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, founded by Google to support women studying computer technology. The scholarship is awarded for academic achievement, leadership qualities and interest in computer sciences. 

Students at the Faculty of Computer Science Win Apple’s WWDC Scholarship

Second year Software Engineering students Vadim Drobinin and Alexander Zimin have been named the winners of the WWDC Scholarship. In June they will take part in the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is an annual international conference for Apple developers held in California 8-12 June.

HSE Alumnus Wins Global Education Grant

Artem Stafeev, who received his bachelor's in Software Engineering in 2014, has become the first HSE representative to win a state grant to study at a foreign university as part of the new governmental programme Global Education.

Wil van der Aalst Becomes HSE Honorary Professor

The famous Dutch computer scientist Wil van der Aalst has been made HSE Honorary Professor for his enormous contribution to the development of research and teaching programmes at the university and for reinforcing HSE’s international reputation.
