The master’s programme 'Financial Technologies and Data Analysis' combines information technology, mathematics, and economics. The programme puts particular emphasis on hands-on experience: as early as the first year, half of the programme’s first-year master's students receive full-time employment in data science departments of financial companies.
This July, St. Petersburg and Moscow hosted Geek Picnic, the popular science festival for lovers of science and cutting-edge technology. This year HSE University became an official partner of the event. Festival guests got to see the recent projects of HSE professors, students, and graduates as well as attend lectures by leading HSE experts.
Students from France, UK, Italy, Switzerland, Togo, and Albania worked on research projects at the labs of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science during Spring Semester 2019.
In 2019 the Higher School of Economics has climbed from 84th to 60th place in the Time Higher Education (THE) world ranking of young universities. HSE University is the only Russian university to place in the top 100 of this ranking.
HSE University has appeared in 10 subject areas and six subject categories of the Expert Analytical Centre ranking of university research productivity. Moreover, HSE ranked 1st in five areas and two sections.
On April 26, the HSE Academic Council approved a charter for the creation of a Board of Trustees at the Faculty of Computer Science. Board members include senior executives from Yandex, JetBrains, SAS, 1C, and Sberbank. The endowment will be used by the faculty to fund long-term projects.
A new supercomputer, which has been recently set up at MIEM, will allow the university to carry out high quality research in deep learning and mathematical modeling. The computer was ranked sixth in the April Top-50 ranking of supercomputers in Russia.
Part of the Centre of Deep Learning and Bayesian Methods and another partner project between Sberbank and HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science, the laboratory will focus on applying machine learning methods to financial services.
From April 4 to April 6, the final of the International Olympiad for Data Analysis IDAO-2019, organized by the Faculty of Computer Science of HSE and Yandex Computer Science Department with the support of Sberbank, was held at the Yandex office. 31 teams reached the final stage, more than a thousand could not go past the qualifying stage that involved the task created by the muon research group of the LHCb collaboration of the Large Hadron Collider.
