On September 12 and 13, a mini-workshop "Stochastic processes and probabilistic models in machine learning" was held at the faculty. Four invited foreign specialists gave lectures about the application of parametric and nonparametric probabilistic methods in machine learning, and representatives of Russian scientific groups told about particular projects where these approaches are used.

The application period for HSE’s Student Research Paper Competition has started. The winners will have an opportunity to take part in workshops on academic skills development, while those in state-financed studies will improve their chances of seeing their academic scholarships increased. Also, in addition in HSE students, learners from other academic institutions are eligible for this competition.
Bayesian Methods in Deep Learning Summer School was held in Moscow fron 26 to 30 August. During these five days 96 participants from 8 countries listened to lectures about Bayesian methods in deep learning and trained neural networks.
On August 6-11 the 34th International Conference on Machine Learning was held in Sydney, Australia. This conference is ranked A* by CORE, and is one of two leading conferences in the field of machine learning. It has been held annually since 2000, and this year, more than 1,000 participants from different countries took part.
On July 17-23 the Third Machine Learning summer school organized by Yandex School of Data Analysis, Laboratory of Methods for Big Data Analysis at the National Research University Higher School of Economics and Imperial College London was held in Reading, UK. 60 students, doctoral students and researchers from 18 countries and 47 universities took part in the event.
A team of researchers from the HSE Laboratory of Methods for Big Data Analysis (LAMBDA) has won a contest held by the Presidential Research Funding Programme. Researchers with the laboratory are developing a system of algorithms that will help physicists look for new particles in the Large Hadron Collider.
A new English-taught course offered by the HSE Faculty of Computer Science kicks off on Coursera on July 17, 2017: Mobile Interaction Design: How to Design Usable Mobile Products and Services. Its author is Pavel Manakhov, Associate Professor at the HSE School of Software Engineering and Lead Interaction Designer at UsabilityLab.
BlockchainHack, Russia's largest hackathon focusing on the development of block chain projects, took place in Moscow on the 1st and 2nd of July. Seniors from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science took home the grand prize of $50,000.
On June 14 the workshop ‘Complexity of Computation, Communication, Descriptions, and Proofs’, organized by the Laboratory of Theoretical Computer Science, was held at HSE Faculty of Computer Sciences. The conference was organized as part of the major international conference ‘Computer Science in Russia’.
